if you installed MSDE2000 sp3a package and did not change default
installation parameters, DISABLENETWROKPROTOCOLS defaults to not enable
network protocols so the installed instance will be available only for local
clients on the server... please have a look at the readme file of sp3a
package at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/servicepacks/SQL/2000/ITSP3ReadMe.asp#_3467463_msde_2000_setup_parameters_wluf
you have to use server network utilities to enable network protocols if this
is the case..
