I would like some information regarding the use of anti
virus software with SQL Server. I know as a general
practice I do not require anti virus software on the
database server as long as my app architecture is sound.
But, in cases where app and database server are the same,
I have the following questions:
a) What is the effect of running software like McAfee and
Norton on mdf, ndf and ldf files?
b) If I do not run the virus scanner on my database files
but run it on other files on the server, apart from
obvious resource contention and memory considerations,
any other things I should look out for?
c) If do decide to go with using an anti virus software,
which one folks feel is suggested and why?
d) Any feedback on the use of McAfee?
Thanks in advance.
