I think you also need to make sure you have Release A of the Trial Software.
The original release of Trial Software was vulnerable to Slammer, so we took
it down. When updated Trial Software was available, it also had the ability
to be patched by SP3a. So basically if you got the Evaluation Edition awhile
back, you should make sure you get it again:

some excerpts from that page:

"SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Release A contains an update that
protects against the Slammer worm. Customers and partners should only use
SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Release A."

"Note: After installing the Evaluation Edition, you should download and
install SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a (SP3a)."
