Hello John,

Since SQL 2K SP3, sp_makewebtask (xp_makewebtask) is calling
sp_setuserbylogin (=SETUSER)
and that prevents a linked server query from being called within the sproc
giving the error you are experiencing.

Although its a behavior by design , there has been a bug filed and I will
look into it for the current status.

Meanwhile, the suggessted workaround is to create a global TempTable ,
fill it with the results of the linked server
query and then use the local Query instead of linked server query for
creating the webtask.

| We have a SQL2K SP3 server on W2K that is having
| difficulty running web tasks. The task simply executes a
