Have you checked the actual permissions for the folder? Also, try running the MSSQLServer service under Local System (for now). If that works, try setting it back to the original domain account.
There is a possibility that there are some OD issues, perhaps some corruption if there was a power failure and you didn't have a UPS.

Tom, Thank you for responding. As far what the domain account is, I don't know why that affects it. We just have one domain account here and it should have the permissions to write to the folder, it always did before. The SQL program was backing up the database until about a month ago. The last time it backed up was on Feb 11, 2003. We had a bad snow storm that caused some problems, so maybe that could have affected it. Since it keeps giving an Operating System error = 2, would I be able to fix the problem by putting in the OS cd and running a repair on the SQL server OS. I was able to do a windows backup, where I just saved the hard drive space and the system state. that way the data won't be lost if anything were to happen with the SQL cd. But anyway, yet the file that the database was backee up to is local. So, what do you think? lauren >-----Original Message----- >It is possible that SQL Server does not have read/write permission in the directory. What domain account are you using for the MSSQLServer service and does it have permission to write to the folder?
