SQL2K OLEDB Linked Server to AS400

I have linked AS400 to SQL2KSP3 but am having trouble
setting the provider string. The provider DLL IBMDA400
allows is available as an OLE DB Provider in the SQL
Linked Server configuration but the provider string field
is disabled. I have configured the linked server manuall
with sp_addlinkedserver and set the provider string but
it appears that this is not being sent as part of the
connection initialization.

Any input as to when, how, and why each of the OLEDB
configuration values are used would help me debug this
issue.
