Replication and SSL

I've been doing some reading about SSL and I'm wondering, if you setup 2
servers for replication, and they both use SSL, with the replication be
encrypted? I saw something on one of the news groups saying that the client
must inform the server that the connection is to use SSL, this being the
case, does the SQL Replication config know that it should do this?

I'm thinking about replication data between data centers, and we don't have
a VPN, so i've got to come up with something on my own.
