Based on the eamil below what would happen if people running this would install the sql2kdesk.exe patch??? You are receiving this email because you have been identified as a beta tester of the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta. This email contains critical information for users of the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta. Users of the non-"SDK" ("Runtime" or "Redist")") version of the .NET Framework 1.1 Beta may ignore this communiqué. The .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta optionally installs an instance of MSDE 2000 in conjunction with the "QuickStarts" feature. MSDE 2000 is vulnerable to the recent "Slammer" worm, and the generally prescribed fix is to apply SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3. However, the instance of MSDE 2000 installed by the .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta is not serviceable using SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3this method. To address this issue, we have made available a special patch for users of the .NET Framework SDK. It is recommended that if you or your users have installed the .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta that then this patch should be applied immediately to prevent any damage from the worm. Please communicate this information directly to any of your users who have installed the .NET Framework SDK 1.1 Beta. The patch and further information are available online: http://www.msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updat es/sdkfix/default.asp Visual Studio .NET 2003 Beta customers who may have otherwise installed MSDE as a feature of that product should also apply the SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp? url=/technet/security/virus/alerts/slammer.asp We strongly encourage customers who have systems that have not been updated to immediately install the latest patch to correct this vulnerability. Customers that have any ongoing issues should visit Microsoft.com/security, contact the Microsoft Anti-Virus hot line at 1-866- PCSAFETY, Microsoft product support or your anti-virus vendor. Microsoft's support for virus-related issues is, of course, always free. Methods for contacting support can be found at http: http://support.microsoft.com. Thank you for your attention on this matter.. We will continue to keep you apprised regarding this issue as updated information is available. Regards, Visual Studio .NET Beta Group
