I hate to cross-post, but this probably needs to be directed to a place that SQL Server folks frequent.

   - now, logged in as a power user, the system tray SQL Server Service

  turned off, which I could turn on, as power user). 
  Now, after current patch, it is completely inaccessible, and looks like this (small embedded gif): 
       
  Previously, I could enable or disable SQL for .net SDK through this tray-icon. 
  Logged in as admin, it looks normal  with: 
   Server:  <computername>\NETSDK    Service:  SQLServer 
  Any ideas?
