Not able to retrive information from SQL 7 server after patching

The attached file shows the result of trying to connect to
my SQL server. This occured after patching the server with sp4.
The server is running & I can get into it. My problem comes
when a user tries to pull data from the server via a VB
script. The SA account doesn't work so I created another
and it also fails to allow entry. The authentication has
been switched from SQL to NT and back with no changes.
The question is : how do I ensure that this account(or any)
can connect and retrieve data.
