cannot get SP3 to install SA Blank Password

I am running SQL 2000 on an NT 4.0 (SP6) server. We had
Slammer attack at our location. I was am trying to run
the SP3 update to remove the vulnerability. However, I
cannot get beyond the point in the install where I am to
authenticate, either Windows or SQL. The install stops
with Error while detecting SA Blank Password. I have
tried to go into the Enterprise Manager to set this
password. I don't seem to get far this way either. Any
suggestions?
