Thanks John,
I thought about the space between Local and Settings but
made no change thinking that would invalidate the path. I
checked the variables for spaces before and after only. I
am installing on W2K Server logged on as the admin account
specified and he does have full rights on the folder.
Removing the space was what was needed.
I read many of the posts regarding SQL administrators and
their disdain for those that attemtp to administer on
a "less than full-time" basis. My thought is that ther are
many more of the latter than the former and that includes
me. I do this in addition to many other duties. I must
also say that I had applied the manual patches months ago
that protected my server from Slammer and was attemtping
to install SP3 as early as Friday when I encountered the
problem.
So much for my spouting...thanks so much for your help, it
is appreciated.
