Hi Bart,

You can specify an instance name to upgrade on the command line when running
setup. Please review section "3.7 Install Desktop Engine SP3" of the readme
for SP3. It provides a table with available switches when running setup
including the INSTANCENAME= option.

Also, in reviewing your initial post, you didn't specifically indicate that
a named instance of MSDE was installed. If you are using an (unnamed)
default instance and still encountering this issue, please reply including
the sqlsp.log file from your windows directory as an attachment. It will
often show the step at which setup is encountering a failure.

Thanks,
Tom Casey.
