In the future, please state which version of SQL Server you are using.
In addition to what Dejan mentioned, SQL Server 7 and 2000 have a server
role called sysadmin. If you add a login to that role, they have all the
rights and priviliges of 'sa'.
I have worked with clients who have 'disabled' the sa account by just giving
it an unbelievable complex password, and then not giving that password to
anybody.
