Yes, sysadmin means that the login is a member of the fixed
server role System Administrator.
In regards to your error, you are likely running into one of
the following:
PRB: Cannot Change SA Password in Enterprise Manager
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;Q218172
BUG: DBO User Does Not Display in Enterprise Manager
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;Q305711
Either way, they are both basically due to the account
mapped to dbo not having a matching login.
