Hi Peter,

If I understand you correctly, please try the following steps to workaround
the problem.
1. Change the authentication mode from Windows to SQL Server on the
security tab in Properties window. There will be alert window to provide
you with two choices: Yes and No to re-start the server. Please click the
Yes button.
2. Right-click the server and select the 'Edit SQL Server registration
Properties' option. You also need change the authentication from Windows to
SQL Server there, and you should specify the login name and password.
3. Re-Start the SQL Server service.
4. You can try to connect to the server again.
