I have an application written in D5 Pro that uses ADO Express to connect to
a SQL 2000 DB. The SQL 2000 server is a 2000 server. All the NT 4 and 2000
Pro workstations work fine but we are having problems with XP Pro
workstations.
Everything works fine logged on as administrator but if you log in as any
other user we get timeout problems when trying to connect to SQL.
I tried setting up a .udl file to test the connection and this also gets a
timeout but only the first time I try it. If I load the Data Link properties
window and click test connection it times out after quite a while. If I then
immediately click the test connection button again it works instantly from
then on. If I close and open again, it goes back to timeout the first time
and then works. All this is fine when logged on as administrator - it works
first time everytime.
I havn't been able to try it but I suspect that if I try to connect in my
app twice the second time would work. As it is now, it times out, raises an
exception and my app then closes. I have found that if I make the user a
member of administrators (on the work station not the domain) it works but
any other security level exhibits this problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? I am guessing it is somthing to do with
security but I'm stumped as to what given that it will connect eventually.
Thanks for any help
Simon
