Hi
I am trying to access some files on a USB drive. My operating system is
Windows XP, but I am unsure what the operating system is/was on the USB
drive. When I try to open the folder but I get permission errors. What can
be causing this and how do I resolve the issue?
Unless they have a bootable operating system on them like certain Linux
distros, USB thumb drives don't have an operating system. Since you didn't
give us the exact text of the error messages, all I can suggest is that:
1. The files are encrypted or the drive has U3 software on it

2. You can try taking ownership of them.

If you want a better answer, please post back with the exact text of any
error messages you get. Please don't paraphrase.
