1. Uninstall all Norton software via Add/Remove Programs.
2. Enable the Windows Firewall.
3. Run this removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
4. Immediately install the 30-day free trial version of, e.g., NOD32* or
KAV7**
5. Manually update your new anti-virus application then run a full system
scan.
Do your problems persist now?
[Don't forget to subscribe to your new AV app before the free-trial period runs out!]

Can't hurt.

I recently installed NAV, and Firewall. I found that Norton firwall slowed
down my lap top too much so I decided to go back to Windows Firwall. I
disabled everything in the Norton firewall, and still Windows firewall is
off by default. I would prefer to not uninstall Norton firewall due to my
past experience trying to uninstall Norton products. Is it possible to make
Windows the default firewall and set so that it is on by default again? I
have windows XP Home edition, and a linksys wireless router. This brings up
another question, with my wireless router is it necessary to have windows
firewall on?
