Intrusive and annoying, but legit <w>
You can check in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to see if that
specific update is installed. Be sure that the 'Show updates' box is
checked and look for KB905474http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905474

I recently had a pop-up on my desktop that appeared to be from Microsoft
requesting me to let Microsoft verify that my software was registered. (I
don't remember if it was Windows, IE, or Office specific.) I clicked to
allow it and in a couple of minutes a message appeared informing me my
software is registered. (I knew it would be.) But yesterday a friend said
she saw a tv news report warning of a computer security issue that sounds a
lot like this. Has my comuter been compromised or is this a legitimate
Microsoft procedure?
