Seriously, thanks guys. I took your advice PA and went to AUMHA. One of the
experts there, KB, read the Hijackthis log and identified the sneaky culprit.
Just for reference, beware "mbssm32.exe" if it should ever get smuggled into
your System32 folder. It's a parasite from "Micro Bill Systems Ltd.". So

which you have helpfully provided the link below. It has a lot of good and
relevant info, though I haven't got to the application part yet. There's also

continue to plough my way through it, and hopefully find the answer to my

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

forums for expert analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
