Re: Disk full - or is it a virus?

I really DON'T want to reformat hard drive as Windows XP came preinstalled on
my laptop, it would be an expensive option if I've got to repurchase the
operating system!

Size of My Documents is onl 18.9 Mb and I have already moved all large
photo/video files to usb and online storage so there's no problem there.

I've also tried system restore and removed all previous restores to make
space - t no effect - so I guess you're right, I suspect virus as well, but
have run my:

Avast anti virus software ad found nothing
Also: Adaware and Spywere Blaster, again with no significant results

Do you have any other sugggestions or tests I could run?

Many thanks

or it could be a virus run your preferred scanner or Multi-AV

hope this helps,

the windows folder or harddrive is obbliously allready compressed

and it appears that your windows folder size is above average ( 3.5 GB )

you didn't mention the size of the doccument and settings folder which
contains all your buisnnes and personal related documants and settings (
hence the name ) personal and buissnes files can realy burn up space on
your disk.

to free up space you could .....

delete temporary files on your computer that internet explorer and other
applications download for one-time-use and remove all but the most recent
restore point

and/or

save all your documents, files, music and other personal files to a
removable disk or cd/floppy, format your hardisk and reinstall windows

but take others advice before ussing my last option !!!

Despite removing rarely used programs (after finding I had less than 1 Gb
free on a 14 Gb hard drive on my laptop), I find that:

the Windows folder is: 15.3 Gb (how is THAT??? given 14 Gb capacity?)

the Programs folder: 637 Mb

What can I do to get my 15% free space (for defrag etc) and preferably
more
than that, as computer is naturally running very slowly?

Many thanks.
