Re: How do I get rid of an aggressive/relentless pop-up?

Thanks PA. I'm going to run with a few options that David has suggested
above, but the additional suggestions you have posted may come in handy. Will
post the results once I have found a way to rid my computer of this nuisance.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Recently I appear to have been hit by an unwelcome and highly agressive
pop-up. It appears frequently in the form of a pop-up window which goes
under the heading "Micro Billings System". It repeatedly and relentlessly
demands immediate payment of £19.99 for some transaction dated 27/12/06.
The name of the so-called transaction is "sexxxpassport". No such
transaction ever took place. The source site is
"http://auth.microbillsys.com";. I am tearing my hair out. It is not a
virus, and it is not spyware, since I am well protected in those respects.
I have listed it as a restricted site, but it still pops up nonetheless.
Deletion is only a temporary solution. In fact, the first time the bill
appeared it came in an even more virulent form, so that whenever I tried
to
delete the window it duplicated itself onto my hard drive and even began
to
multiply like rabbits, but I somehow rid myself of this more extreme
version. But I am still plagued by this new and equally harrassing
version.
Can anyone help me please?
