The vehicle for the spyware is your browsing habits not Messenger. Windows
XP uses Messenger by default. The fact that you do not have the executable
in that folder makes me wonder what it is that Norton thinks is accessing
the Internet. Either the contents of that folder are being hidden or Norton
is broke. It may just be reading the registry where that call is located
and Norton is so dumb it doesn't check to make sure that what it is telling
you in fact is happening. I suspect that.

My computer has recently been infected by a malware virus that has beenthe
affecting performance and trying to get me to buy some antivirus software.
My Spyware software detected "lots" of files which they advise have the
potential to capture keystrokes. They were quarantined.
When trying to analyze the problem I also noticed in Norton logs the
following: C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" is preparing to access
Internet. I do not use messenger and am concerned that perhaps this isthe
vehicle that such spyware uses. Is this possible? When I go to thewould
directory, there is no such .exe file. Neither are ther uninstall
instructions or Messenger entry in Control Panel Add/delete. Any help
be greatly appreaciated.
