People have the same problem with Window's "DLL HELL". This is by far

What package did you have problems with. Honestly, I don't have these
problems (just to about 5 years or so ago). In am interested in what
package you had a problem with. Please specify...

It's been a while. I was hunting for security type tools on sourceforge,
that's all I can remember.

Right. I'm not talking about what is and is not actually happening.
I'm talking about how things might look from the outside looking in.
From the outside, to someone making a cursory glance, it's gonna
look like the same old thing over and over.

Not sure what you are talking about here...please specify.

I'm talking about how the different distros, desktops, etc. could look
like the previous fragmentation issues to someone who remembers those and
who looks at Linux again now. Joe talks about it in his replies to you,
and I've heard people talk about Linux at bring up that as an issue
before, so I'm not surprised.

Honestly, my best advice is to learn first hand. I am not being sarcastic, I
am being honest. Frequently, in the MS newsgroups, I read people's comments
that clearly illustrate that they got their information from a second (or
third) hand source who "told" them what is Linux. More times than not they
are totally wrong....

Learn Linux as well as you know Windows and find out for yourself. Make up
your own mind instead of making up your mind on what other people say...

Remember, we're talking about appearances to people on the outside looking
in. I'm not claiming there is a problem, I'm talking about perceptions of
some 'decision maker' types who are not close to the technical end of
things any more.

As a user and Admin, trust me when I say this: It *is* *not* a problem...

Check out the post by Stefan Kanthak within this thread, he illustrates some
of the points better than I seem to be...
