Hi Roger,
A couple years ago I started using NT Backup (again) to schedule my
backups. I never really liked NTBackup, especially with the unreliable
Scheduler problems. So I created my own VBScripts to backup my data
files and tried using Scheduler to run it. Still, Scheduler was
unreliable because of the logon problems we discussed.
So, I eventually aborted using Scheduler and just put my script in the
StartUp folder and had it run on daily startup and run the backup
immidiately or for a predetermined later time. I had a couple scripts
for other purposes that ran this same way.
But, now I am not doing anything much with scripts and don't have
special scheduling needs.
I find my Norton AntiVirus 2006 scheduler works fine for scheduled
system scans, no problems.
For SYSTEM and DATA BACKUPS, I am now using Acronis True Image 9. I
have been using it for 7 months now and have a dozen different flavors
of backups scheduled with it and have come to feel comfortable that it
is doing it's job well.
The only problem I have had with Acronis True Image is because I
changed my Windows XP user login PW. That caused the Acronis backups
to error (not surprising) because the user PW it was trying to use was
no longer valid. Once I discovered this and reset the schedules with
the correct PW, every thing is back to normal and reliable.

I don't know the real answer to this question.
However, I stopped using windows scheduler (years ago) because of this
exact same problem. It was unreliable for the same reasons you cite.
Here is what I recall from past experience:
Anytime any scheduled task is opened for review, even if you change
nothing, you must reset the password. This seemed to be the primary
culprit for me. Just keeping that in mind can be a big help.

Hi Jeff,
I agree, that behavior was annoying (and virtually obscene).
With W2k3 it now seems things are more tolerant and understanding
that settings have only been viewed, and with no save attempted to
change the task there is no call for the credentials.
What have you been using instead ??

Greetings-
I'm using the scheduler to run 4 tasks every morning.
All of a sudden they have stopped running b/c logon/password error.
I have made sure they have the correct rights in the services to logon
locally etc...
Nothing was found in the security log about logon errors.
The odd thing is that the last time this happened, I went into the
properties of one, changed the password or just retyped the same one and
it worked fine. It seems to be losing it's password somehow.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
It is happening on virtual machine if this information would be of any
help.
Thanks,
Mark
