Your experience must be with very shakey hardware, I hard power cycle my test machines (a laptop and a desktop) at least 10-15 times a week by hitting the power button or pulling the plug or pulling the battery and I never see the machines autochk.

The only time autochk is run is when the file system is considered dirty when it is shut down... I have seen Autochk only a handful of times..
In my experience, autochk will run if the system was shutdown by ANY method other than the approved one. As the simplest case it will run if you press the OFF button by mistake. Office-staff never, ever do that? Sure they do. Especially on ACPI machines where it's often hard to tell if the computer is off or sleeping, and pressing the OFF button when it's actually in standby will cause a 'dirty' shutdown.
-Although the latter touches on another perennial design-issue with computers: the fitting of a power switch with an _ambiguous_ state (no visual or tactile clues as to its status) on a device where an improper shutdown has serious consequences.
