Re: Microsoft Says Recovery from Malware Becoming Impossible

True or false, have you stopped beating your wife?

The correct answer to a question like that is "mu".

Ask me one of these questions:
1. True or false, of the machines on which malware is a present threat, 99%
run Windows: TRUE.
2. True or false, 99% of malware is able to exploit technical flaws in
Windows that are not present in other systems: FALSE.
3. True or false, 99% of the malware problem is in a place where future
versions of Windows may be able to provide a solution: TRUE

Malware is, primarily, a "people" problem. People click on the "smileys"
advert, and download the ActiveX control, clicking "Yes" to whatever button
threatens to keep them from their promised smileys. Maybe 99% of these
users are on Windows, but Windows didn't make them that way, they chose
Windows because they perceive it to be easier for them to use.

Buffer overflows? Unix has 'em.
Badly-written applications? Unix has 'em.

For every technical flaw that exists on Windows, there's another for Unix,
and another for Linux... If the world changed its collective mind tomorrow,
and everyone switched to Linux, it'd take a month or two for the malware
writers to make malware into a Unix / Linux problem.
