Thanks to Lanwench and Malke.

Malke, The very reason people like me come to these groups is to get
help in resolving our issues and not to be judged that we are doing
wrong - which is not the case, the fact is that we are not familiar
with the steps to be taken to resolve the issues and hence thankfully
accept the advice from experts like you.

Lanwench, I am not sure whether you meant Malke's reply is lovely or
the other way around.

Malke is lovely, and so is everything she writes in here. Her reply was not
insulting or rude in any way. If you found it so, I suspect you haven't been
using usenet for long.

I respectfully suggest you work on developing a thicker skin if you're going
to be using much at all on the Internet, especially newgroups....and
remember that everyone in here is a volunteer, and is going out of their way
to help others, or try to. Caveat emptor, gift horse/mouth, and all that.
;-)

thanks vof the info.

I followed lanwench's reply and setup msnews.microsoft.com as the
nntp server. The first time it tried to connect to the server and
timed out. after that I am not sure how to try to connect to the new
server..

On the IE side while i can writed replies like this one, if I want
to start a new thread I get the message popup window blocked..

In addition to the lovely Malke's reply - is it possible your
ISP/firewall is blocking outbound TCP port 119? Can you telnet to
msnews.microsoft.com on that port in a command prompt? Also try
news.microsoft.com (same thing).

any advice

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200, WIN XP pro laptop at home. I wanted
to put a new question in one of the XP newsgroups. However on
clicking on the new question I do not get the new question window
but get a message "pop up window blocked"

I have the latest paid version of zone alarm pro firewall. I also
tried by switching of the cookie control in the firewall with no
effect.

please advice on how to resolve. This question I am posting from
my office computer.

In addition to Panda_man's reply, I suggest you start using a
newsreader client (Outlook Express, Forte Agent, etc) instead of
the web interface to the groups - it's a much better way overall.
You can use msnews.microsoft.com as the NNTP server & subscribe to
as many groups as you like.

Sorry to jump in..but had same problem to post new message. I have a problem with the tool bar for Internet Explorer that hopefully there is an answer to help solve. I am running Windows XP SP2.....Mozilla(default browser) but same problem with toolbar. On the drop down menu for File, Edit, View, etc.....The entire menus are "greyed out". It should be white. What could possibly be wrong? It showed up couple days ago. Ran all my security software..e.g anitvirus, hijack this, spyblaster, winpatrol....nothing out of the ordinary. I am stumped, but I notice that a certain clicking sound is heard when I click on files and folders but not on a website. Help if you can.........hard to find right topic to post of the ordinary problems.
