Re: Repair Damaged Windows Script Host Files

Thanks for the info ladyprt
This makes me wonder how widely spread the issue will be
if they have determined they have a bad distribution CD.

By script-blocker, you would likely know if you had one,
or once did, on the machine, as these usually give pop-ups
asking is a script X should be allowed to run when some
task tries to run script X (these usually come as a part of
some PC safety suite of software).

Yes, I have downloaded all the script files from Microsoft. I ran two
on-line
scans with Norton's and HP. I have used an on-line removal tool and
reinstalled.

What I figured out that when I installed the new version, it's bulit-in
old
version removal tool deleted some necessary files. The files should be on
the
new CD but they are not. Norton's is refunding and replacing my software.

Or... another option is to rebuild my computer so that everything is back
to
factory standards... which I can do but would rather not ... but I can. I
would still need the new software.

My lack of knowledge on whether something is blocking or not blocking a
script... is zero. I am a graphic artist/print person who knows enough to
be
dangerous but I am trying!

I know I have bad line breaks!

That should have effected a complete refresh of the scripting
engine. Have you tried running some simple script, such as
one obtained from www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter
just to establish whether any script does run (rather than there
being only problems with their scripts)?

Do you have residue from other installs around that might
have included script blocking ??

I understand what you both have said and have already downloaded the
quick
fix. This is one of the first thing I was told to d while on the phone
with
Norton's technical support The patch did not fix the problem.

I may have just understood Stefan's post.

If in fact it is the scripting engine that is at issue, not some
specific script files, then you could likely use that minor update
release MS made a year and a half ago

sHow do you repair damaged script host files. I installed Norton's
Internet
Security and cannot open the program console. Norton's says that my
windows
script host files are damaged. I have tried everything that is
available
(downloaded a fix from Microsoft) and nothing seems to work. Anyone
got
a
clue what to do?
