Re: Antivirus spftware

We already had a talk here (IIRC) about heuristic in Kaspersky.

Several months ago I made researches concerning popularity of AV's in the
USA (3 millions of clients). The leader is Norton. then comes McAfee, Nod32,
Kaspersky, Dr. Web.

Panda_man : Norton and Symantec is not just very popular , they are the
most popular software/company in the whole USA. Kaspersky is good at
detectiong malware however is one of the slowest antivirus softwares in
the
whole world.Avast is the slowest and Kaspersky is the second of the
slowest
<this was reported by "PC World" on recent tests> It scans all my hard
drive
for 4 hours and some minutes (Recommended settings level) whereas another
like F-prot , Panda or Nod32 scans the whole for no more than 30 minutes
and
this is the onliest reason I don't like Kaspersky. :)

Wow ... I really don't wanna remind myself this ...a client came at the
office and showed that his 130 Gb hard drive is scanned for about 24 hours
from Kaspersky......
I do hope they will fast up their engine in version 6.

Kaspersky suffers from absence of heuristic at all, while has faster
databases upating then nod32.

Panda_man : by the way , Kaspersky do have heuristic scan although they
rely mostly on the definitions...:)
You can have a look at Eugenie Kaspersky's words here(Problem 1 and 2 of
the
AV industry)
http://www.kaspersky.com/eugenearticle
( I disagree with him about the thing that there is no need of unknown
threat detection system)

I would stop on nod32 or NAV (throw away Kaspersky at all). I like
nod32's
virtual machine (but sometimes their analyzing scares me, for example,
their
problem with simulating stack - it's easy to crush their analyzer).
Nod 32 is very good althought their company suffers from
popularity.Symantec
has improved a lot their 2006 Norton but still hate Norton Internet
Security
and especially its firewall which ,I admit, I can hard control it... May
be
the best Symantec product is Norton System Work 2006... :)

Yes, you're right about popularity of Nod32 - pretty nice solution. I may
also add one more AV - Dr. Web(russian product). It has the most powerfull
heuristic I ever saw. But this product is popular only in Russia and
Ukraine.
