Yellow triangle in taskbar malware

I run a Windows XP, SP2, home PC with IE 6.0 latest version browser. XP
firewall is active
as well as McAfee security centre - initially with antivirus installed only.

I've been having a very annoying malware problem since December 7th. At
first I had the well-described red circle in taskbar and text bubbles that
on clicking on them, linked to a website advertising Spyaxe 3.0. It got so
bad I spent £ 30 UK Sterling on McAfee AntiSpyware (about 50 US Dollars).

I also downloaded the free MS Windows antipsyware prog (beta version) but it
kept saying it couldn't detect an internet connection to update itself. I
don't know enough about IT to judge whether that was to do with it not being
able to coexist with McAfee antispyware, or the malware or other reasons.

Scanning with McAfee antispyware and deleting any nasties seemed to get rid
of most of the problem. (E.g. I was able to specify my own startup website
again etc.)

BUT

I still get a yellow triangle with black exclamation mark in taskbar.

10 tracking cookies - although I'd not knowingly surfed the web since last
deleting all cookies

Downloader-AQW in c:\WINDOWS\system32\ldDEC7.tmp

Oh yes - and a monitor tells me something is trying to change the internet
security zones all the time.

I can't seem to shake this off EVEN with my pricey addition to McAfee
security center.

What to do? Any help much appreciated !!!
