My 2c here....

Assuming you are joining the "always-on" group of users..What I mean here is
basically broadband connections are "always-on" unlike the dial-up where you
need to dial in to some phone number provided by your ISP...If you are using
pppoe or some other dial-in methods for DSL then its similar to dial-up
connecting procedure...
Its like the more time you connected to internet the more threat you are
going to face..I am not saying its a bad world..but definetly with all these
spyware and the script kiddies scans you are at much more risk when you are
always on...so as suggested by our fellow members beefing up the firewall as
well as a good av is nice...Just be more carefull...
