FWIW, I just reinstalled KB88113 and had no problems, so like everybody
else it was KB891711 that caused me problems. I find this ironic,
because that particular security update was described as a fix for when
a "Vulnerability in Hyperlink Object Library Could Allow Remote Code
Execution" and the problem I had was that when I clicked on a link in
any browser, I'd get a black screen of death. On the other hand, the
security update that's causing all the problems (KB891711) is described
as a fix for when a "Vulnerability in Cursor and Icon Format Handling
Could Allow Remote Code Execution".
