Of course you haven't detected any viruses, you're not running antivirus.

There are a whole lot of viruses that still run on Windows 9x. Most viruses
try not to do anything that would alert you to their presence, because then
you would remove the virus.

Use anti-virus. http://housecall.antivirus.com will do a one-time virus
check without installing anything [but also without offering you any
protection]. www.grisoft.com is free antivirus. www.kerio.com,
www.zonealarm.com and www.sygate.com are free firewalls, you should have one
as well.
It is certainly possible you don't have a virus.
