Spyware and Virus help please!

I'm going out to purchase an update for my antivirus software today
(currently McAfee Professional v.7.0). Just for kicks, I did an online scan
at Norton.com and McAfee.com.

The Norton scan picked up two spyware programs, but no viruses per se. The
McAfee scan picked up one virus (a "General Downloader" as it called it), but
no spyware programs. Well darn.

I was just going to go out and purchase the latest version of McAfee
Professional (I certainly don't want to buy both Norton and McAfee), but if
it doesn't pick up these spyware programs, how should I go about getting rid
of them? I've also downloaded Microsoft Anti Spyware, AND AdAware, neither
of those will detect the spyware that Norton detected.

I'm just hoping I guess that the online scan that McAfee did, is a different
scan than the actual Professional version of the software will do once I
purchase it, and it will detect the spyware (along with the virus). Is this
a possibility?

If it doesn't detect the spyware, any suggestions on how to get rid of it?
