While that is certainly possible, I believe the "turn off" idea stems from
the early days of AV protection that typically monitored "important" files
on disk for potential modification.
For instance, a new version of a DLL attempting to copy to disk during an
installation would trigger an AV alarm message at least and/or the disk
write action would be blocked at worst.
