Verifying product key

Hi I purchased a publisher 2002 cd from a dealer at amazon.com. When put it
in it said invalid product key. He sent me another product key but I would
like to check the validation before I put it in. Is there a way to check
without it downloading into my computer.? I don't know how he didn't send the
right one n the first place. Thanks
