Could the trojan be what Symantec calls "VBS.Downloader.Trojan"?
You could try Symantec's on-line scanner and see how it identifies the
file. Go to:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
Click "Check for security risks" on that page. (It's below "removal
tools" on the right hand side.) Select "Virus detection".
By the way, I still think that the computer is a basket case. I would
do a clean reinstall, if I were you.
