Try running the command prompt to access it to see if it makes a difference.
Anytime you experience strange behaviour you should run a full virus scan
with your antivirus program using the latest virus definitions as of today
and also scan for parasties with something like the free for personal use
AdAware updating it's definitions before scanning.

You also might try removing the Yahoo messenger in Control Panel/add and
remove programs to see if the problem goes away. There are free third party
tools such as Autoruns from SysInternals that can do much of what msconfig
can do or you could try to copy msconfig [from \windows\system32] to a
different folder on your computer and try to run it from that folder to see
if it works for further troubleshooting. --- Steve
