Running 2 Security Centers?

Is Windows Security Center doing the same thing as my Norton or McAfee is? I
have a virus detect, and firewall on both.
Is this unecessary, and is my computer running slower than it should because
of it? I am presently running Symantec Antivirus Client on a 30PC Domain. My
home PC has Dell Security Center with McAfee, and Windows Security Center. I
select to use McAfee as the default Security Center, but Windows says it is
still protecting.
Isn't this kind of overkill, to have redundant security with no security
needs other than to keep the computer operating?
Sorry for all the questions. Please answer anything you want to.
