    You should run some firewall, but if you are sharing files between two
    computers, perhaps you should consider (if you are not already) using a
    Cable Modem/DSL Router to give your machines IPs, put you behind a NAT
    (would work better than most software firewalls for the home user) and allow
    you communicate behind the router without having to run any firewall.

    Otherwise, you are going to have to either put in the exception for all
    machines for the ports needed for File and Printer sharing or for certain
    IPs.
