I have had a real scare yesterday. I thought that my
computer was really secure and I work in an area where
security of some information IS important.
A friend of mine, who is a bit of a computer buff
challenged me and offered to show me just what she could
do. And for real...she managed to find my yahoo
screennames and passwords (accurately) and also my
hotmail ones. She was also able to tell me which groups I
belonged to and which websites I had visited - well some
of them. I am pleased to say that my main workwebsite
was inviolable as was AOL.
I would emphasise that my friend has had no access to my
computer physically and to complete the magician trick,
she is in the UK and I am in Singapore. How is this
done, are there programmes out there to do it? and how
does one protect oneself from this sort of arms length
security violation?
