I've got an much easier solution stop using software that phones home.
Firewalls should NEVER be on the Host machine. Cause if you get some
Malware installed it won't be of any use. WinXP Pro an 2000 come with
something (I'm german I'm not sure what it's called in english) where
you can restrict a programms internet/registry/whatetever access.
