Windows XP SP2 Security Center does now communicate with your antivirus
application and determine if it is running and updated. It does not perform
the actual antivirus activities itself (Windows XP that is), but it does
communicate with the AV software of your choice to further warn you if you
have neglected to install one or it is lacking necessary updates that it
    knows about.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.
