Can we share files on home network if SP2 Firewall is enabled?

Is there a simple yes/no to this question? If it is possible to have full
functionality of our small home network back AND have the SP2 firewall
enabled is there a link known to the instructions?
We are behind the firewall enabled by our Verizon DSL router, so I am not
even sure we need this SP2 firewall.
