Looks like Microsoft's antivirus software recommendation
(s) to me.
If you look at one of their spyware pages (I'm too lazy to
look it up right now to post the link here), it only lists
Spybot and Ad-aware. Microsoft is not going to just have a
list there "of about every [antispyware] vendor you could
think of" (as you suggest for the reason for all the
antivirus vendors Microsoft listed). I don't see a rogue
like Privacy Tools 2004 listed with Ad-aware or Spybot.
Why? Because whatever Microsoft lists on their Web site
IS, in fact, a recommendation.
It states on that website: "Antivirus software is
available from a variety of Microsoft partners..." and
then proceeds to list the "Microsoft partners." Do you
honestly believe Microsoft would put just about any
antivirus vendor in that list? Nooooooo!
I guess you want Microsoft to say, "We recommend these..."
No. Do we have to be picky and see that exact wording? No,
not when this list is on Microsoft's own Web site. They
are recommended by Microsoft, plain and simple. If you
want to argue otherwise, feel free.
