windows update kills my laptop

My laptop has been updated "Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB867801)" in
7/30/2004. this laptop has Office 2000 and MS VS.net 2003
and 6.0. I turned on it and it complaint explorer.exe read
the memory that is not supposed to be read. without this
process, system never boot up. I tried to recover from CD,
diskette, and any other booting mode. but without
explorer.exe process, they are unnecessary. I did not want
to install this kind of patch. But it did because the
automatic update turns on automatically. This is a great
situation from Microsoft. Thanks Bill.
