spybot search and destroy

I have downloaded spybot search and destroy to clean up my
system. It is installed, I run the search and find 260
threats and when I run fix problems, it starts then the
whole program shuts down. I have tried several times and
even have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Does
anyone know why this is happening? How can I remove
spyware off my system? Is there another approach? Thanks
