Hello,Patti,

Yes,I've read it and I think you might get a
better/faster answer in one of the other
forums.Here,maybe?

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?

I know absolutely nothing about wireless networking.I'm
really sorry!

Vis-a-vis the annoying pop-up,just to reassure me,it did
not look like this,did it?:

I'm sure it didn't,but,y'know..

Take care,

Sadie

Thanks for your support. Update is - she did NOT have
SASSER (((slaps forhead & giggles at friend) - what she
had was an annoying Pop-Up, warning her about Sasser &
directing her to an anti-virus website :) I gave a
quick lesson on viruses, AV software, Windows patches,
etc. That is the good news!

Now that I've had a chance to actually SEE what she's got
& is trying to do, here's the situation. She is trying
to share her satellite internet connection it using a
wireless setup from one bedroom to another (directly
below in the basement).

She has a brand new Dell 4600, DirectWay Satellite
internet, a Dell True Mobile 2300 router, running Win XP
Home. This is the PC that has the internet connection &
router attached to it. Internet IS working on this PC.

First thing I found curious is that the Dell Router does
not have the "Wireless" light lit. It has a "Power"
light, an "Internet" light, and a "Lan 1" light lit,
but "Wireless" is not lit. I also discovered that when I
turn the power off to the Router, there is NO internet
connection.

Obviously, the Router is "sorta" working...it is working
enough to give her internet to this one PC. However,
when I tried to go to the Dell Routers "Config & Utility"
software, it could not detect the router.

Plod downstairs to second PC...it is a Gateway running
Win 2000, trying to connect -via- wireless Zonet ZEW 2000
USB adapter (friend says this wireless adapter was NOT
purchased from Dell, like the PC & Router were, but
from "some PC repair store"). Install driver & software
carefully following instructions...the adapter picks up a
signal strength of 48%, but does not find the Router...no
internet.

Dell Wireless Tech Support tells me that the Gateway PC
must have the wireless adapter software installed
correctly, then the "Wireless" light on the Dell Router
will light up & all will be peachy.

I still can't get it to work & really question if the
Router is not actually the problem...Maybe something so
simple as it was not installed right; however their
internet connection DOES work with it right now & doesn't
work without it, so it's sorta working...

Any thoughts??? Thanks so much - I'm so glad I found
this forum, it has been SOOO helpful - more so than Dell
at this point (they just referred me back to the company
that made the adapter, but my instincts are saying the
Dell router is the problem)!!!

Thanks again!

Patti
